Wrinkles: Who Needs Them...About Radiesse™ FN, Botox® and Collagen™
The
first thing you need to understand is that there are two different kinds
of wrinkles on our face, static and dynamic . Static wrinkles are the
lines and folds that are on the face all the time. Dynamic
wrinkles are the lines that appear when we have muscle movement
resulting in facial expressions (crow's feet, frown or forehead lines).
Botox is designed to stop dynamic wrinkles. it prevents the nerves
ending from communicating to the muscle to contract. If you have lot of
dynamic movement in the upper third of your face, but very few static
wrinkles, you are an ideal candidate for Botox.
Botox is not a permanent solution. it can last from six weeks to 6
months. Most people average three to four months from the injections.
Some people can use it once and never need it again, while others could
bathe in it and never respond.
b
Who should have injections done with Botox®
You should have you injections done by someone who does a fair
amount of Botox. otherwise you may have to bring a friend to share
the vial or wait for Botox day, which some offices do once or
twice a month. We inject fresh Botox® everyday of the week. Because
of volume and experience we are a member of Allergan's Preferred
Provider Network.
Botox is not a filler. It will not fill or plump up lines or
depressions in the skin that are present when your face is at rest.
in order
to improve deep set static lines you have to plump them up
with some type of filler like Collagen, Fascian or Radiesse
FN. Collagen™ has been around for years. In named (the
manufacturer of Collagen) mandates that people seeking injections
have a least two test spots to determine if there is an allergy to
the product. Although many people use Collagen, the biggest
complaint has always been that it does not last long enough.
c
Fascian™
Has been used for a few years, but again is not a long
lasting filler. Both Collagen and Fascian can last a few weeks to
several months in most patients. Radiesse FN which have been used in the medical arena for about
25 years is now pending additional FDA approval as a soft tissue filler.
This product has been known to last in the human body from 1 to 4 years,
and in some instances up to 7 years. So Radiesse FN is very long lasting filler compared to other choices currently
approved for use in the United States. After initial correction you will retain fullness, but
you may desire additional corrections to the treated area after all the
swelling resolves. Radiesse FN is
considered to be a safe, effective and longer lasting alternative for
people requesting augmentation for the lips, nasolabial area and other
areas of the face. If your interested in what Radiesse, Restylane,
FN, Botox or Collagen can do for you and you wrinkles. Please call for

What is Liposuction?
Liposuction is a surgical
procedure that permanently removes fat from selected areas of
the body. After instilling a special type of dilute local anesthesia,
known as tumescent anesthesia "to swell" to numb the areas that
are being treated, the physician inserts long slender tubes under
the skin, directly into the fat. This metal tube or cannula is
attached to a vacuum pump. The fat is directed into the tip of
the tube and removed by suction. By careful suction the surgeon
can sculpt excess undesirable fat from almost any area in the
body, often dramatically improving the shape of a patient's hips,
waistline, back, thighs, knees, buttocks, abdomen, legs, arms,
or neck.

e
What can Liposuction due for me?
For those who have failed diet and exercise Liposuction is the
most effective way to permanently change the shape of your body
and improve your figure. Specifically it is meant to remove
areas of disproportionate fat accumulation, areas that are
resistant to diet and exercise. Liposuction is very effective
for correcting saddlebag hips, flattening bulging
abdomens, re-contouring a sagging neck, removing stubborn love
handles sculpting a more pleasing waistline, reducing
facial jowls and thinning out heavy thighs, knees
and legs.

T
How much fat can be removed?
Enough fat is removed from each site to give a desirable contour.
The actual amount varies from site to site, and person to
person.
Sometimes as little as several ounces of fat removed from the
neck can make a dramatic change in appearance.
On the other hand,
Liposuction of the abdomen and thighs may yield as much as ten
pounds of fat. For patient comfort and
safety, extensive Liposuction
may be performed over several visits a week or more apart.

g
Liposuction is it safe? Is it Painful?
Tumescent anesthesia has revolutionized Liposuction over the
past ten years. Liposuction is now an exceedingly safe and comfortable,
in-office surgical procedure. Patients are awake during the procedure
and feel no discomfort. The effects of tumescent anesthesia solution
injected into the fat compartment lasts twelve to twenty-four
hours after the operation, providing good relief from pain during
this period. After the effects of the anesthesia wear off there
is only minimal pain which is easily controlled by oral medications.
Because the unique properties of the tumescent anesthesia, there
is very little blood loss during or after the procedure, very
little bruising, no need for intravenous fluid, or any need for
a hospital stay afterwards. Patients can return to work a few
days after the surgery and resume regular activities within a
week. Liposuction has become one of the safest surgical procedures
performed today.
h
How soon before the results of liposuction?
Most people notice a substantial improvement in their body contour
within a day. However, the anesthetic injected to numb the
area sculpted, takes several days to drain and absorb. This
may briefly obscure the results. By six weeks, ninety percent
of the
healing and remodeling of the fat compartment treated
and contraction of the skin over the area has occurred. Your
new figure at
this time is just about what it will be. However,
healing and remodeling will continue for three to six months
following the procedure.

h
Anything special I need to do before and after surgery?
Before surgery, some basic blood work and a brief physical exam
are required. Patients over the age of 45 will need an EKG.
Patients
should avoid certain medications that may cause excessive bleeding,
such as aspirin, vitamin E, diet pills, and garlic supplements.
Postoperatively, patients must wear special garments. which can
be obtained, at our cost, through the office. These garments
are worn almost continuously for one to four weeks depending
on the area treated. Tight, but comfortable, the garments compress
the skin over the area liposuctioned, insuring proper remodeling,
skin contraction and adherence of the skin to the
muscle. Patients
can expect to resume regular activities such as work and some
light exercise a day or so after the procedure.
j
When can I resume my regular activities?
Patients
can expect to resume regular activities such as work and some
light exercise a day or so after the procedure.
k
Are there an complications of Liposuction?
Tumescent Liposuction is one of the safest cosmetic surgical
procedures performed. We do expect some swelling (tissue edema)
and bruising of the areas treated. Rarely, fluid or blood pockets
can form under the skin and have to be drained. Other complications
such as infection, heavy blood loss, or scarring, while possible,
rarely happen. Liposuction is usually complication-free!
k
What are the limitations of Liposuction?
Although the results of Liposuction can be quite remarkable and
very gratifying, it is unrealistic to expect perfection.
LIPOSUCTION
IS NOT A TREATMENT FOR OBESITY AND SHOULD NOT BE UNDERTAKEN FOR
THAT PURPOSE.
Designed as a re-contouring procedure, Liposuction
is not a substitute for proper diet and exercise. Liposuction
will not
eliminate dimpling of skin, commonly known as cellulite
(You can discuss liponic body sculpting for cellulite treatment
with our staff.)
n
Will my insurance cover Liposuction?
Liposuction is cosmetic surgery and, as such, is not covered
by any health insurance.
The
pre-op blood work and EKG (if over the age of 45) are usually
covered by your insurance company.
Check with your insurance company if this is covered.
