What is Liposuction
Tumescent Liposuction
Lets Talk About Liposuction
A surgical procedure that permanently removes fat from selected areas of the body. Many ways to perform this procedure:
started with “open” methods under general anesthesia tumescent technique
"to swell" revolutionized the procedure in the late
1980’s-major credit given to Dr. Jeffrey Klein a dermatologist. Tumescent
Liposuction "to swell"
is one of the safest procedures done in the
office today according to data gathered by the ASDS 2001 and
reported in
Dermatologic Surgery Journal January 2003 issue.
Other still use a form of general anesthetic.
Some use ultra-sound, lasers, fluid jets et cetera.

Can it be done safely in the office?
Awake or mildly sedated patients in good health have selected areas filled
with a special mixture of dilute anesthesia. The physician slides long, slender, blunt, metal tubes called cannulas through the fat between the skin and the muscle via 2-3mm holes in
the skin. The cannulas is attached to a vacuum pump and the fat is directed into
holes on the undersurface of the tube and removed by suction.

What areas can be sculpted?
Wherever there is fat above the muscle that you can grab: The Jowls, Neck
Chest, Breasts (men and women), Back Arms, Legs, Knees
Torso: Upper and Lower Abdomen, Waist, Flanks, “Dun-Lap”, Pubic Area and Butt.

Is it painful?
Patients are awake or mildly sedated and cooperative.
After the numbing fluid takes effect, you can feel "distant" touch and
movement, but not pain.
The tumescent anesthetic wears off in 12 to 24 hours.
Post op discomfort is then controlled with oral medications at home.

What can Liposuction do for me?
The most effective way to permanently remove fat and change the shape of your body.
Especially the disproportionate parts of your body that are resistant to diet and exercise.
Not a replacement for diet and exercise. Not a treatment for obesity. Can not treat fat that is in or under the muscle!
1.
Why is it safe?
Because of the properties of the tumescent fluid, little blood is lost during or after the procedure.
Patients are monitored throughout the
procedure. Don’t need General Anesthesia (risk or cost). Strict adherence to the Guidelines of the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery.
Healthy patients (ASA class 1 and 2). Amount of anesthetic used is based on your examination, labs, weight and body composition.
Minimal other drugs used. Amount removed no greater than 4 to 6 liters of
supernatant fat.
1.
How much can be done at once?
Remove or shift enough fat to improve the
contour of the area(s) can be as little as several ounces in a neck or over a gallon elsewhere.
For patient safety and comfort, several sessions may be necessary.
1.
How soon before the results show?
Most patients notice improvement at the time of surgery. The anesthetic drains for several days and the treated areas swell
for several weeks like a sprained ankle. By 6 weeks about 90% of the healing and remodeling and skin
retraction has occurred.
Healing continues for up to a year.
